Review by hotel critic
As a tea plantation owner and enthusiast from Galle, my recent visit to Saram House By Geoffrey Bawa was a nuanced exploration of luxury versus value. The property's lack of signage was initially off-putting, but upon entering, the clever design juxtaposing interior and exterior spaces was truly striking. The use of wood and tiles showcased meticulous craftsmanship, enhancing the overall ambiance. While concerns lingered regarding previous management issues, the new staff—Tharaka, Suraj, and Sujith—were remarkably hospitable, embodying the renowned Sri Lankan hospitality. The serene setting of the property offered a peaceful retreat, though navigating parking could be cumbersome. Power outages were a minor inconvenience, but the architecture maximized natural ventilation, ensuring comfort.Appreciating Bawa's architectural prowess, guests are transported to a bygone era of design excellence. The property's attention to detail and historical charm are commendable, offering a glimpse into Sri Lanka's architectural heritage. The breakfast, though basic, was satisfying, with the staff accommodating special requests graciously.Saram House By Geoffrey Bawa presents a unique blend of historical richness and contemporary comforts. For those seeking a cultural immersion within a serene environment, the value proposition outweighs minor inconveniences, making it a compelling choice for a discerning traveler.
